Description

The Digital Course Materials and Access Codes in Postsecondary Education study was conducted by Academica Group on behalf of Campus Stores Canada to better understand the use and perceptions of access codes among Canadian students and faculty. Two online surveys were conducted from January to February 2013, with a total of 9,425 students and 928 faculty participating from more than twenty postsecondary institutions across Canada. This report provides a detailed picture of student and faculty use of access codes, purchasing/selection behaviours, challenges experienced, as well as perceptions. Of the 9,425 students who completed the survey, the majority were enrolled in university full-time pursuing a Bachelor’s degree and taking courses that were in class only. There was a good mix of respondents across years of study, as well as age categories. Of the 928 faculty who completed the survey, close to two-thirds taught at a university, and the majority were full-time or tenured with an average of 13 years of teaching experience. On average, faculty respondents taught 2.3 courses a semester. Most faculty taught primarily in-class courses, while just under one quarter of faculty taught both online and in-class courses.
